Budget Traveling to Europe, What Do You Need to Know?
Budget Traveling to Europe, What Do You Need to Know?
If you plan to cross the Atlantic Ocean, there are a few tips that can help you before starting your first Europe vacation.
First of all, you need to understand and be fully aware during your trip that Europe is very different from the United States in every possible way. Even in the UK.
In consequence traveling through Europe is also completely different than traveling to any American city.
Transport
Even if you can afford it, you should never rent a car to move around any city. There is completely lack of space, there is no place to park and driving directions in most European cities are not as straightforward as we are used to know.
Public transportation in most major cities is very affordable and easy to use. It is the most used method of transportation for everybody either tourists or locals. If you do not like public transportation, you can always hire a cab.
The countryside is very nice all over Europe, and driving conditions differ from what I described above. Traveling from one city to another with a rented car, will allow you to stop in incredible and nice towns where you will discover very nice things almost in anyone, if you can afford the time.
I rented a car once in the French Riviera to travel from Nice to Monaco, very nice, but I did it for a couple of days, returned it and continued my trip.
However, roads are very narrow and dangerous, so be extremely careful. Trains are the most used transport all over Europe to go from one city to another. They are cheap, safe and reliable.
Safety
Most European cities are safe, at least in the tourist areas. However, pick pockets are all around Europe looking for tourists. Take extremely care about them. Split your money, hide it very well and be careful when taking money out because they will notice where do you hide it.
Do not leave bags or purses unattended or hanging from restaurant chairs. If you use a back pack, do not carry money or passports within it. I personally saw once, how they cut the bottom of a back pack with a knife to steal a passport.
I always use a special pocket which hangs from my neck and goes under the underwear shirt. This shirt has to be inside your pants to avoid any falling in case the string is cut.
Money should never be taken out from that bag in public and you should carry the money that you will use for each day somewhere else, therefore if you loose that part, you won’t regret it very much, or at least you won’t be broke.
Traveler’s checks are sometimes difficult to change in Europe. Therefore if you prefer to take them, consider some time to change them in a bank, as they are not widely accepted everywhere as in the US.
When eating, check menu prices before sitting. Most restaurants display their menus at the entrance. If the menu is not displayed, avoid going into that restaurant or at least ask for a menu with prices before ordering anything.
There are some places in Europe, where they charge you differently according to the place you sit in the restaurant.
City Guides
Carefully plan your days and get city guides for every place you will visit. You can get them on the Internet or printed in any bookstore. Time is very valuable as there is always more to see than time available.
The Euros have made life easier for tourism and now you don’t need to change money in every country as it used to be, but there are still some countries like UK, that do not use Euros yet.
There are hundreds of money exchange stations all over Europe in every city, train station or major attraction, but be careful about the exchange rate. Always ask local people for the best place to change money. Or do your own research writing down the exchange rate in every place you see near your hotel.
Exchange your money before going anywhere. Usually the exchange stations near tourist attractions have very bad exchange rate.
Do not forget to exchange back the money you won’t use anymore or that can’t be used in countries you will visit next, as some currencies are difficult to change once you leave Europe. Also, remember that coins are not changed, so get rid of them before leaving the country.
These above are some general tips and information, to make your travel nicer. You will always need to research further and carefully plan your trip to get the most out of it, and you can find thousands of sites with additional resources.

Travel Europe Tours To Paris
Travel Europe Tours To Paris
Grand Paris! Think of a romantic trip to Europe, and the City of Lights springs immediately to mind! And why not? It\’s a beautiful city. Easy to navigate. And the sights! Well, there is no shortage of sights. And because of the combination of tourist attractions, food, and romance, it is one of the most popular destinations in the world.
So what do you want to do in this grand city? The museums? The Monuments? The markets? The bookstalls along the Seine? Is it the food that attracts you at world class restaurants, or do you just want to sit in a sidewalk cafe and watch the world go by?
There are so many \”must sees\” that you really will have to choose what is most important to you. Monuments? How about the Eiffel Tower. The Place de la Concorde with it\’s Egyptian obelisk. Think of the line up of the Arc du Triomphe du Carrousel through the Tuileries to the Arc de Triomphe, and the grand Grande Arche in La Defense district. Or how about Invalides where Napoleon is buried.
Landmark churches? Start with Notre Dame de Paris. The Basilique du Sacre-Coeur… dramatic and white on the hill in Montmartre. The churches of La Madeleine, Sainte-Chapelle, and the Pantheon. Or just landmark buildings like the Palais Garnier.
There are so many world class museums that it would take your entire vacation to see them. The Louvre, the Musee d\’Orsay, the Musee Rodin and the Musee Picasso to name some of the most obvious. Museums can make your head spin after a few hours. To avoid being overwhelmed by them, get a museum card. They are available for 1, 3 and 5 days.
The card will allow you can go in and out of the museums over the period of your stay and not get \”museum head\”. The museums are fantastic, but you want to get a feel for all of Paris don\’t you?
Take time to stroll in a garden or two. The Tuileries stretches in front of the Louvre. The Luxembourg Garden is a great place to watch children of all ages sail small boats on the ponds. Sit in one of the cafes and have a glass of wine.
Wander in some of the neighborhoods. See Montparnasse with it\’s artists and cafes. See the delectable food displays in stores around La Madeleine. Explore the Latin Quarter… see the Sorbonne and visit a bistro or two. Or just wander along the Seine and see what the booksellers have in those green metal boxes.
The food is… well so French and wonderful. You can certainly eat expensive meals at restaurants with who knows how many Michelin stars, but the food will be good almost everywhere. Pop into any bistro or neighborhood restaurant and order a \”prix fixe\” menu and you are sure to have a great meal. You have to try the favorite street food of Parisians…. crepes… try one with Nutella, or sugar and butter.
Food, wine, lots of action….. If we haven\’t got you packing your bags for Paris, we hope we at least have you dreaming of the City of Lights.
Isn\’t it hard navigating Paris on your own? You\’ve heard that they won\’t speak anything but French, that the waiters are rude, and the shopkeepers are impolite. It\’s really not true. Paris is a big city, and its citizens sometimes have that \”big city attitude\”…. people are hurried and may seem a bit brusque, but if you remember some of the simple rules of travel, you\’ll do fine.
First thing you need to remember is to bring your sense of adventure and appreciate the differences. The French are more reserved than most Americans. They may not be as quick to smile at strangers, but with a little effort on your part you\’ll find friendly, helpful Parisians.
Second, whenever you open your mouth, attempt to say a few words in French. Saying hello, please and thank you in French will go a long way. They will appreciate it. Try to say it with a French accent… you probably won\’t succeed, but this will win you friends too. And they\’ll probably ask if you would prefer to speak English.
OK, now that we\’ve gotten you past your fear of people problems when navigating Paris, let\’s talk about physically getting around.
First thing, be sure to bring good walking shoes. You will be doing lots of walking… with the sights and the atmosphere of Paris, you\’ll be looking around thinking, \”This is Paris… I\’m here!\”
But you don\’t want to walk aimlessly, so let\’s look at the geography of Paris. Many Paris locations are described as being either left-bank or right bank. What does that mean? To get real basic… the River Seine cuts Paris pretty much in half. So the Left Bank is more or less to the south of the River Seine. (Look at a map of Paris… it\’s mostly the bottom half.) The Right Bank is to the north of the river. (So, the top half of the map.. right?)
Old Paris hands will tell you, \”Oh, I stayed in the 6th Arrondissement.\” Or the 16th (a wealthy neighborhood on the Right Bank near the Bois de Boulogne) or the 1st (the center of Paris where the Louvre and Palais Royal are) or whatever.
The arrondissements are the districts that the city is divided into. There are 20 of them. You really don\’t need to know them for navigating Paris. You\’ll see them on addresses, and they are marked on maps, but you don\’t need to know them to get around…. though you might want to find out which arrondissement you decide to stay in, so you can say to your friends, \”Oh WE stayed in the 7th!\” (You would then have stayed near the Eiffel Tower and the Musee d\’Orsay.)
You\’ll want to walk and walk, but to see more of the sights, you can\’t walk everywhere. Take the Metro to the next neighborhood and start walking again. You\’ll soon know where your landmarks are, and they will help you get your bearings.
You can also use the Paris bus system and taxis to get around or take a leisurely bateau on the Seine to see the sights. However you get around, you\’ll soon find that navigating Paris isn\’t hard.

Travel Europe Tours To See Venice In A Day
Travel Europe Tours To See Venice In A Day
Many people try to see Venice in a day. Time and money are often short when you\’re traveling, so you want to get to as many places as you can. You really shouldn\’t see Venice just in daylight…. a day and a night maybe. Or two nights and a day.
Venice really is a small town. You can walk right across it from the train depot to St. Mark\’s Square in less than an hour… but that would be if you were just walking and not looking, and what you really want to do is stroll and SEE Venice…. La Serenissima herself is the main attraction.
The first time we went to Venice, we arrived by train at night and stayed near the train station. As soon as we settled in, we hit the street and started walking. To see Venice by street light is magical. Narrow winding streets…. Blue and red stripped \”barber poles\” holding boats and gondolas on the canals…. Little arching bridges to cross….
Don\’t worry too much about your direction or getting lost…. Follow those signs that say \”Per Rialto\” or \”Per St. Mark\’s\”… (Per Rialto means the direction for Rialto Bridge; Per St. Mark\’s means… well, you get it…). Sometimes the signs \”Per St. Mark\’s\” point in BOTH directions…. isn\’t that wonderful! Wander where you want! All of the day trippers have gone home in the evening, and the narrow streets are all yours and so romantic!
Do what we did and wander all the way to St. Mark\’s Square. If you don\’t want to spring for an expensive drink at one of the cafes on the square, buy a gelato on a side street, then stand in the square and enjoy the dueling orchestras playing sentimental old favorites.
In the morning, try to see St. Mark\’s Basilica and the Doge\’s Palace. You probably won\’t have time to go up the Campanile for the view with only a day, but it\’s your choice…. if you only have a day, you\’ll be back.
Stroll the streets, shopping along the way. There are lots of wonderful expensive things to buy in Venice, but there are some affordable Italian fashions too… and what better, easily packable souvenir could you ask for than some flamboyant Italian creation?
Find a table at one of the restaurants along the Grand Canal with a view of the Rialto Bridge for lunch. Yes, it\’s touristy… it has been touristy for centuries, so you are in good company.
In the afternoon try to sample some of the art… at the Church of the Frari or the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. Or if you\’re interested in the history of Venice, you could venture into the Museo Correr. If you want to see one of the grand palazzi that line the Grand Canal, see the Ca\’ Rezzonico, the museum of 19th century Venice.
When you get all the way to one end of Venice, take a vaporetto to the other end… you\’ll never tire of seeing Venice from the water, watching all those palazzi glide by. It takes on a different look in the morning, in the afternoon, at night.
Choose a romantic canal-side restaurant for dinner… or a wonderful little trattoria down an alley. Take a gondola ride before or after dinner. Who cares if it\’s touristy? Your gondolier will sing for you, tell you where Marco Polo lived… and you\’ll love it.
Go to a concert in the evening… there are chamber orchestras all over vying for your money. Or just go back to St. Mark\’s square and listen to those dueling orchestras again.
Two nights and a day will let you see Venice in the short time you have… and by having one or two nights there, you\’ll be able to savor it with fewer crowds….. how romantic!

There are still rumors that Jaguars can be found as far north as Texas but mostly they inhabit Mexico, Central and South America in ever dwindling numbers. They are beautiful, silent and deadly. These two are from Xcaret Park in the Mayan Riviera. The compound is an island onto itself with lots of foliage, water and privacy if they choose.
Discover Ghent In Belgium For Europe Travel Tours
Discover Ghent In Belgium For Europe Travel Tours
Ghent, Belgium is a friendly university town that is full of ancient buildings and history. If Bruges is a city filled with tourists looking for a time warp, Ghent is a city full of students and locals just living life… Like Bruges it started as a port, but unlike Bruges, it still is an important port. It\’s a city of flowers with a flourishing flower export trade.
It has museums and ancient architecture, but it\’s a modern city. True, the city center is a pedestrian area that is like a museum to early Flemish architecture… and a testament to the city\’s medieval might, but it\’s surrounded by a real life city. The tourist brochures say it has more historic sites than Antwerp and is more down-to-earth \”real\” than Bruges. While I love Bruges, I think I agree with them.
It\’s not high on a lot of tourists lists, but it deserves to be. Though I admit, the only reason we went to Ghent in the first place was because we had hosted a student from the university one summer in the U.S.
As a tourist, it\’s the old city center you want to visit. You\’ll find a wealth of history to explore within the outline of the old city walls. You\’ll see impressive Gothic sites, such as dramatic St. Bavos\’s Cathedral and the Castle of the Counts. The city\’s medieval core is cradled within a loop of the River Leie, which surrounds the old town like a moat.
It\’s a big city… Belgium\’s fourth largest, but you\’ll only be dealing with the center. The historical center is divided into \”areas\”. To find your way around on the tourists maps you need to become familiar with these areas…. don\’t worry, there\’s no quiz and it\’s not hard. The historical city center is in the area called Toren-site. To the north is Patershol, which contains a lot of the best restaurants. To the south is the Kunstenkwartier, where most of the universities\’ 50,000 students congregate.
There are numerous waterways passing through the city center. The city started as a settlement on the Scheldt and Lys (Leie) Rivers. But you don\’t need to know all the rivers and canals…. just know that all this water makes the city pretty.
Castle of the Counts is an imposing fortress type castle in the heart of the city — The Gravensteen area or \”Gravensteen-site\”. This imposing castle was RE-built in 1180 (and then restored in the 19th century). It overlooks the city from it\’s battlements high up on the keep and you get a great panoramic view of the city from the tower. There is an authentic medieval district in the shadow of the Castle … It is still partially surrounded by a medieval moat.
The area called Toren-site is the historical heart of the city. This is where you\’ll find Saint Bavo Cathedral with the Ghent Altarpiece – The Mystic Lamb by Hubert and Jan Van Eyck. This famous multi-section altarpiece was completed in 1432, and is worth a look whether you\’re an art lover or not.
Walk over St. Michael\’s Bridge, also in the heart of town… in the Graslei-site. The Graslei is one of the most scenic places in Ghent\’s old city center. From the bridge, you\’ll have a wonderful view of the skyline of Ghent with the three impressive towers of St Nicholas\’ Church, the Belfry with its bell tower, and Saint Bavo Cathedral.
If all of these areas make the city sound spread out… it\’s not; at least not the historical center. You won\’t get lost in Ghent… pedestrian signposts are everywhere. So stop and explore this historic Dutch city; you\’ll be glad you did.

Europe Travel Tours In Search Of Belgian Beers
Europe Travel Tours In Search Of Belgian Beers
If you like beer, then Belgian beers should draw you to visit this little country. The Visit Belgium website says there are over 450 different varieties of beer.
Beer is more than just a drink here… this country cultivates beer connoisseurs. It\’s true… Belgians take their beer seriously. Many of the beers have specific beer glasses in which that beer, and only that beer, may be served. Just like some wine glasses, each glass is made to enhance the flavor of the beer it is designed for.
Certain beers may be paired with food, just like wines are, and some beers are aged for years in their bottle. Almost all Belgian beers are \”conditioned\” in the bottle not in kegs, so it will be different than if you go into a British pub to get a local beer on tap or if you visit one of the growing number of micro-breweries in the U.S.
Many of Belgium\’s beers are made in small quantities and don\’t travel well, so you\’ll just have to go to Belgium to try them.
You\’ll find all kinds of styles and all kinds of strengths, so be careful when you\’re drinking. There are….
Blanche or White Beers… sometimes called wheat beer.
Lambic beer… a non-malted wheat beer that is naturally fermented by airborne yeast. (This is made specifically in the Brussels area.)
Gueuze, Faro and Kreik beers are Lambic beers. They have a secondary fermentation that makes them sweet or fruity. Kriek is a refreshing cherry-flavored beer. Our Belgian friends told us we had to try the cherry beer while we were in Brussels.
Other different types include…
Brown Beers… more like what you would consider an ale.
Red Beers that are produced from red barley and aged in oak.
Golden beers or blond beers that are like Pilsner lagers.
There are Trappist beers which make famous dark ales and great blond beers. Abbey Beers which are similar but are not made in monasteries.
Six of Belgium\’s Trappist monasteries make beer. There are some twenty different beers brewed by those six monasteries. These breweries are not open to the public except on occasional \”open door days\” and then only with reservations, but you can sample them in local cafes and some abbey shops.
If you drive around to the Trappist monasteries to try their beer, you can try some cheeses too… Beer and cheese instead of wine and cheese.
Many of the Belgian beer breweries have tours or museums. Some require reservations, some have admission frees for the tours and tastings and some are free. Check with the Visit Belgium website for more information.
As you might expect with all these beer, there are beer festivals in many cities and towns the year round. In addition to trying a variety of beers, you can buy beer glasses, bottles, labels, and coasters (though you can snag coasters for free when you buy your beer). You can also buy old ads, clocks, mirrors, pints, jugs and other collector\’s items.
Not up for that kind of a festival? You\’ll find a number of Belgian beer museums, and there are also many Belgian beer tours.
Don\’t worry too much about all the differences; just revel in the fact that when you stop in a little cafe or pub, you\’ll have lots of great Belgian beers to choose from.

Travel And Flight Tips For Your Europe Travel Tours
Travel And Flight Tips For Your Europe Travel Tours
To ensure your comfort, security and enjoyment while on your Europe travel tours, familiarity with travel must-do’s is essential.
Of course, you can just wing it but don\’t expect to go easy breezy while you\’re at it. It is better to be over-prepared and ready than unprepared and sorry. So here are a few tips to help you gear up for your trip overseas.
Visa Requirements
Gaining entry to your country of destination should be first on your list. So check the requirements and ensure compliance. If the country you are visiting issues visa on arrival, then you wouldn\’t have any problem. However, if you are required to apply for a visa elsewhere (and alas! you failed to check beforehand) expect to turn your holiday to a mere airport stopover before you are forced to take the immediate flight back home.
Travel in Comfort
Exotic destinations almost always mean long haul flights and the cramps, jet lag and body pains that go with it. To help minimize these discomforts, choose a good airline with flexible seat adjustments, wide leg room and decent entertainment selections. For the widest leg room, choose seats on the first row and beside emergency exits.
To help you sleep soundly, avoid taking naps the first few hours of your journey. In-flight entertainment is usually provided for the first half of your flight so take advantage of it because you wouldn\’t want to spend the other half awake and counting incidents of turbulence. Travel pills are also handy especially if you want avoid or recover from jet lag quickly so that you can commence your exploration of the city, pronto!
Dress for the Weather
If your trip involves transitioning from warm climate to cold climate or vice versa, you need to have a change of clothes ready in your carry-on bag. You wouldn\’t want to shiver like a wet kitten or broil in your own sweat while waiting for your check-in luggage. This makes checking the weather forecast for your destination indispensable prior to your trip – obviously, it should be done before you pack your bags!
Be Charge Ready
Your gadgets’ voltage and power plug requirements may not be compatible with what is available in the place you are visiting. So check out if your destination supports the voltage requirement or the standard three-prong socket you need. This way, you can bring along an adapter or transformer, or make plans for an immediate purchase once you get there. You can also make prior inquiries to your hotel if they provide these devices so that you will not have to carry them with you if you don\’t have to.
National Currency
Not all of Europe is Euro friendly, so have a look at possible currency changes depending on the countries you are going to visit. Cash or credit may be easy to come by from where you came from but it may not be the case to where you are going. It is important to find out beforehand the availability of money changers or acceptability of credit cards in the area so that in cases of limited facilities, you can have your money changed while still at home.
In most metropolitan cities, currency exchange facilities, ATMs and banks are aplenty. It is advisable to have some money changed while still at the airport to take care of your transportation fare and other immediate expenditures.
