How to Find Cheap Flights to Top Destinations

How to Find Cheap Flights to Top Destinations

With the increasing cost of living these days, you need to save money whenever possible. So how can you apply this philosophy to airfare? There are many ways to obtain great prices on flights. Getting the best rates on airfare requires that you know a few simple tricks that can pay off significantly. These tips include using frequent flyer miles, time of day and day of departure to your advantage when planning a trip. These can all save you money and do not require a lot of extra effort. Knowing these helpful hints can be the difference between big spending and big savings.

Remember to be Flexible with your Departure Date

This is another key to saving money on airline tickets. If you are flexible about the departure time of your flight, you can often save a lot of money on the final price of your ticket. The flights that leave in the morning or evening tend to be cheaper, and booking a flight during these times can save you money. The day of the week can have an impact as well. Many flyers try to book flights more toward the weekend. If you are willing to do your homework and leave a few days open as your possible departure day, this can provide some extra discounts. Sometimes it is difficult to avoid leaving at a certain time but with proper research, you can find the deals that you want.

Holidays are a busy time for travelling because many people like to visit their families. Because of this popular time to travel, airlines like to raise the price of their flights. Plan your trip well in advance and schedule your departure a few days early before the prices are increased. This can allow you to spend extra time with your relatives that you are visiting. Avoiding travel on the holidays is always a bonus because, of course, flights can be more expensive when the seats have greater demands being placed upon them.

Plan Ahead

Another way to get a great deal on your next flight is by planning ahead. Tickets prices increase when the demand is greater for that particular flight. This is typically true as it gets closer to the date of the flight. The theory is that a flyer booking a flight closer to the date needs to get on the flight and may be willing to pay more.

With a little forethought, you can shop out the good deals and rest easy until it is time to leave. The more you can plan ahead, the better the deals are in most cases. If you know that you have to book a flight in the future, shopping around and booking your flight even earlier can lead to even bigger savings. This is extremely beneficial because by booking your flight at the last minute can be much more expensive and a ticket to that particular flight may not even be available. Booking early can help save money while eliminating stress and frustration.

Be loyal to your airline

There are many airlines available looking for your business. These prices vary significantly but once you find a company that you like it is best to stay with them. This program is perfect for anybody that flies a lot because it can help you earn free flights. Frequent flyer miles are a reward system provided by the airline that allows the customer to earn free flights. You obtain a card from the airline and this card contains the information about how many miles you have accumulated. This is a very easy way to save money with the concept of brand loyalty.

Browse the internet

The internet provides information to anybody seeking it and this is also true when it comes to cheap flights. Discounted airline tickets and vacation packages are available online with the proper research. Online research consists of finding your destination from multiple travel agencies and discovering which can provide the best deal. There may be specials or other discounts available for your vacation. These are well worth it because it is an easy way to save money. Also with this many travel agencies available on your computer it is extremely easy to research the best prices.

Airlines are always providing cheap airline tickets and with proper research you can find a ticket at a great price. Some key points to remember are to be flexible with the time you leave. This allows you to be prepared for your flight along with the possibility of paying less for your tickets. Stay with the same airline agency as this can provide extra benefits such as frequent flyer miles. Shop around, and plan as far ahead as you can manage. It may take a little extra work on your part, but the payoff can be worth the savings even if you have to leave early in the morning.

Travel Insurance On The Cheap?

Travel Insurance On The Cheap?

December 3rd, 2009

A common pitfall when buying travel insurance is to take the easy option and sign up for the insurance package offered by your tour operator or to buy through a no-frills airline website. Not only do you risk spending over the odds if you do it this way but you could be buying a mediocre policy that doesn’t provide adequate cover and isn’t best suited to your needs. So can you find a better deal yourself by searching the internet?

More and more of us are doing our shopping on the internet. We do so for the convenience but the main reason continues to be the innate desire to find the best deal but, and it’s a big but, there are a lot of travel insurance websites to choose from out there. So you do need to be ’savvy’ in your search and the increasing number of price comparison sites can often be a hindrance rather than a help.

Why is that? Well, simply these sites highlight the ‘headline grabbing’ figure, not to mention that many only show insurance providers that pay them a commission, so the consumer is often given a confusing and false picture. So can you find ‘cheap travel insurance’ on the internet? Most definitely, yes, but you do need to check that what is being offered will provide you with the cover you need.

When looking for cheap travel insurance, there are some simple rules to apply. Do your homework. Firstly, know what you want. Are you looking for a policy to cover you for just one trip or if you are going to travel more than once, then why not consider an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy instead? That could save you money over the year.

Read the policy schedule. Most internet sites are good at giving an instant quote – that is what they are designed to do but fewer provide easily accessible information to indicate what the policy covers. At the very least you should look at the policy schedule. This is the table that shows the level of cover against various risks. Choose a policy that satisfies your needs.

The areas that cost the most in a travel insurance policy tend to be cancellation, personal effects and medical cover. If you are booking long in advance, then cancellation cover is a must (normally around the £3000 figure is sufficient) as this safeguards you if you have to cancel because of, say, a close family illness or being called for jury service, to name but two examples. If however, you are taking a last minute holiday, then perhaps cancellation cover is not as necessary so you could reduce your premium considerably by choosing a policy with limited or no cancellation.

Likewise, reducing your baggage cover can see your premiums nose dive. When it comes to medical cover, the FCO recommends a level of £2 million as being more than adequate, so do you need to buy the policy that offers £10 million? This is another example of ‘gold plating’ a policy which will attract a higher premium. Check the small print. Very few of us take the time to read the small print but the ‘devil is in the detail’ for sure.

Ask yourself some key questions. Is where I want to travel covered by the policy, for example, is Egypt in Europe or Rest of the World as definitions do differ from company to company? Am I covered if caught up in a terrorist incident? Do I need to produce a police report if I have money or personal effects stolen? What about hazardous activities? Am I covered to bungee jump on my trip for instance? Make a list of simple questions relating to your trip and then check the policy.

So is there such a thing as Cheap travel insurance? Most definitely there is but the simple rule of thumb is that the cheaper the policy, the more restrictive it is likely to be. But you can help yourself by knowing what to look out for and wherever possible tailoring your insurance to your exact needs and that way make your travel insurance cheaper.

Top Five Cheap Flight Destinations

Top Five Cheap Flight Destinations

At the moment, it’s easy to see how some people would be worried about vacation costs this year. Travel is too expensive for many people because of the economy and threats of layoffs. However, there are still cheap travel destinations if you are willing to do your homework. The bulk of your vacation cost will probably go towards your flight and your hotel stay. So, finding a cheap flight and taking advantage of other options can greatly reduce the cost of your vacation. Here are the top five cheap flight destinations that you should consider:

New York City and Other Big Cities

You can often find cheap flights to New York City and other big cities because they are home to large airports. When you fly into a large airport, you have more airline options, which can lower the price. Big cities can be a lot of fun, but are not usually high on the list for tourist destinations, since people are more likely to want to head to the beach or mountains for vacation. As an added bonus, that means that other activities in the cities are also less expensive. Most big cities even have government-sponsored museums, parks, and zoos which are free or under for admission.

Florida or Southern California

The price of your flight often depends on your point of origin. One thing that is almost always a sure bet, though, is that it will typically be cheaper to stay in the United States than to travel abroad. If you live in the eastern half of the country, Florida is a natural choice. You can find flights into Orlando and Miami for just 0 to 0 if you are leaving from a larger northern airport. In the west, southern California is a great destination for the same reason. If you live in the center of the United States, check both Florida and California prices. Also, don’t forget that visiting the gulf of Texas is also an option.

Canada

If you absolutely just want to experience a different country, Canada is a great option. Staying near the United States and not having to cross an ocean helps keep the price of the flight down as low as possible. Canada is also not a huge tourism center, so prices for flights are naturally lower than, for example, Hawaii. Keep in mind that travelling can still get pricey once you arrive at your destination with the current exchange rate, so budget accordingly. However, with the money you’ll save on a flight, it could be worth it. You won’t find warm, sunny beaches in Canada, but you will find some great wilderness resorts, and there are a number of cities that are fun to visit, such as Toronto.

The Caribbean

Believe it or not, the prices for plane tickets to the Caribbean are actually fairly affordable. Although this is a tourist hotspot, the sheer number of flights going into and out of these airports drives the price down. When you work with your travel agent, you can also often get a lower price because they get discounts for selling a certain number of flights on one airline – and flights are easy to book to the Caribbean. There aren’t as many tourists flying to, for example, Italy on the other hand, so they aren’t likely to get a discount on that airline. You can save even more money in general by choosing to fly to Puerto Rico, since it is still a territory of the United States.

Mexico

Some vacationers have been shying away from Mexico recently. However, if you stick to tourist hot spots and use a little discretion, you can be very safe in this country. Flights into Mexico are inexpensive for the same reasons that flights into Canada are inexpensive, you are staying near the United States and you don’t have to cross an ocean. You’ll still pay more for a flight to Mexico than most domestic flights, but if you shop around for good deals, you should be able to travel fairly inexpensively.

Flying will always be expensive, no matter how much price comparison you do to different destinations. There are a few things you can do to keep the price as low as possible, wherever your destination may be. First, be flexible with your dates. Flights are usually more expensive on weekend and near holidays. You can also add more layovers to your flight or take nighttime flights to save money. Finally, when you book your flight, try not to plan activities that you have to rush to as soon as you land. That way, if there is an overbooking problem, you can volunteer to take a later flight. If you do that, most airlines will refund your ticket and give you an additional free flight to use in the future.

Cheap Travel – How to Vacation on a Budget

Cheap Travel – How to Vacation on a Budget

Vacations are a great way to relax, and it is possible to find a great deal whether you are on a budget or not. For those who are on a budget, there are a few sure fire ways to make traveling interesting and enjoyable while keeping a close eye on your funds. Taking time to research your destination and frugalness once you are there can combine to give you a wonderful trip that you will remember for years, even if you are still paying for it years later.

Public attractions are the key when it comes to places to go. Though it may be fun to visit amusement parks and private museums, if you want to get the most bang for your buck you should visit public attractions, such as parks. Most national, state or city museums, even the largest ones, can be visited for a reasonable price. The cost gets high when it comes to visiting the select, featured exhibits, but you can have a wonderful time sticking to the basics and paying less. Another museum trick centers on when you visit. Many museums are open for free (often with the option of making a donation) on certain days of the week. Some cities will actually have one day each week in which every government sponsored museum/attraction is opened for free. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, for example, is free on Sundays. If you do your homework well you could potentially hop from city to city, or museum to museum from day to day and spend money only for transportation, food and lodging.

If you happen to be travelling in Europe try the European Union Rail. The company offers packages that allow you to travel through a certain number of countries in a certain number of days taking as many trains as you need for one set price. If you align your travel schedule so that you are on the train overnight, you can avoid paying for lodging for the day’s activity. This is just one example of how research and preparation is the best way to finding bargains and successfully travelling on a budget. Oftentimes, public areas and landmarks have the greatest value.

Another variety of public attractions are concerts, theatre and other performing arts. City and national governments take steps to show off their cultural achievements. Due to this, cities are likely to hold major performances, exhibitions and fairs either free of charge or for such low prices that they can attract a large, diverse crowd. Also, since these events are funded by the city they tend to be well done. No city wants to look culturally out of step when the event is designed to display the cities cultural highlights and achievements.

Public parks are another great option for travelling on a budget. State parks, battlefields and early settlements are all popular and very inexpensive destinations that work for history and nature buffs alike. These destinations are great for the entire family. Outdoor activities give everybody the chance to move around and experience the area they are visiting. The Jamestown Settlement in Virginia is a good example of this. At one place you can visit a rebuilt version of the settlement filled with live actors and re-enactments of the way things were in colonial times. This attraction is labeled a living museum, and there are many like it. All of this can be seen for roughly 10-20 dollars per person, depending on age. If that is not reasonable enough, you can go a few miles down the road and visit the Historic Jamestowne National Park. This park encompasses the original colony and includes some live actors, original buildings, a small museum and archeological excavations. Not to mention walking trails and the freedom to simply enjoy the park. Entry for this park is free for anybody under the age of fifteen and so inexpensive that a seven day pass is only ten dollars. There are many parks like this around the world, which allow any traveler on a tight budget the capability to visit many beautiful places for a very low price. Lodging still can be an issue when travelling on a budget, no matter how well planned your vacation may be. If you are in Europe, try finding a hostel to stay in. Hostels may not be quite as comfortable as hotels, but they are generally cheap. This option is best for young people, who are more inclined to rough it, but you can find individuals from all walks of life at a hostel. Camping, or using an RV can also serve to keep the price down when it comes to long trips, and are better suited to accommodate a family.

With a bit of research and preparation, it can be easy to travel on a small budget. The main costs fall to transportation and lodging. Flights are expensive, and so is gas. If you plan on driving a lot, renting a fuel efficient car could keep the gas prices down enough to save you extra money. Take as much time possible to plan, and you can have a very enjoyable vacation for a very affordable price.

Discount International Air Travel Is Not For Everyone

Discount International Air Travel Is Not For Everyone

Traveling internationally means something different to all of us. Some will be going on a holiday while others may be traveling for business purposes for example. Either way many people will choose the option for discount international air travel. Of course this really does depend on your financial situation and whether or not you are happy to accept the compromises that go with this form of traveling. What I mean by this is that to keep airfares at discounted prices the airlines will offer you for example alternatives such as layovers instead of direct flights. Now this may not be a bother to some people but to others it can be very disruptive to their travel plans.

I would seriously suggest to you that before you purchase your discount international air travel tickets you should really do your homework and find out whether these compromises are worth the reduced prices. For instance if you are flying with young children, you may wish to get to your destination as quickly as possible (for the sanity of all) without the hassle of stopping over at airports for hours waiting to catch the connecting flight. Children do not cope terribly well with long delays in airports. They can become quite irritable and understandably so.

Some discount international air travel options also can mean that you may not be landing at the nearest airport to where you want to go to, meaning you will have to find alternative transport to get you to your final destination. This may become quite costly. So when you add it all up it may have been much better to go for a more expensive flight. This is why I stress that you do your homework first.

Some airlines may also cut back on the extras that you get during your onboard flight. This may mean less to eat and drink. They may offer you snacks to buy which can be expensive too. Again, this may not bother some while it will bother others. Make sure when you are purchasing your tickets either through the airline or the travel agency that you ask lots of questions to make sure that you will be happy with the flight. After all whether you are flying full price or discounted it is still a lot of money to be spending when you fly internationally.

I suppose the good thing these days though is that there really is the option in the first place to be able to acquire discount international air travel. This opens up the world to so many people who probably would never have been able to afford to go overseas before but now can. So, save your money, do your homework and enjoy your time away from home for whatever reason it is that you are.

My journey to Hong Kong from Manila via Incheon on board Korean Air B777-300 and B747-400E. Yup, it’s a long route alright. More than 7 hours trip compared to a 2 hour direct flight from Manila. It’s on business class anyway; I didn’t mind. Some shots are a bit shaky. Took it with a Nokia N70. Features take offs and landings, Korean Air flight attendants, and the bibimbap!
