Delhi is again in the fever of Games. Commonwealth Games will be hosted by Delhi this year. Commonwealth Games held every four years. Commonwealth games are second to the Olympic Games. Keepiing in view the large numbers of tourists that will be visting the city during the games.

Presently from 52 member countries, about 4200 sports persons will be participating in 17 major types of sporting events that would include athletics, swimming, gymnastics, hockey, cycling, weightlifting and boxing. Opening and closing ceremonies of the Game Delhi will be held in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The games will start on 03 October 2010 and will be closed on 14 October 2010.

The governments of India have made elaborate arrangements so that the event passes off hassle free. Infrastructure and security of the city is being reorganized. Police will be deployed at all major public places of the city like Airports, Railways Stations, Bus Terminuses and Prepaid taxi booths to help the tourists and resolve their queries and concerns. But you should also be aware of personal safety and regard.

Hospitality industry is the major focus of this Game. 2.69 million tourists will intake in the Delhi’s lap to witness the games. Present accommodation is not sufficient for the tourists are coming in Delhi.

Present hotel accommodation is insufficient to meet the accommodation demand. Therefore, Delhi Government and private agencies are jointly making additional 20,000 rooms for the tourists. Moreover, existing hotel accommodation is being upgraded to meet the international standards of comfort and hygiene. Not only Delhi even NCR is also being upgrading its accommodation according to the demand.

Commonwealth Games will increase the economic cooperation, sporting spirit and peaceful coexistence among the participating nations. Suresh Kalmadi, President of the Indian Olympic Association is heading the organizing committee of Commonwealth Games Delhi. He recently stated that Thyagaraj Stadium in Delhi will be developed as model stadium for the games. The Commonwealth have been projected as Green Games and Delhi Government has taken several steps to minimize pollution and conserve water and electricity during Commonwealth 2010.

The main attraction of the Commonwealth Games village is being developed at national highway 24 (NH24). This Village is spread over 63.5 hectares and will be completed by August 2010 at an estimated cost of USD 230 million. The satellite towns of Delhi like Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurgaon are within 20-30 minutes drive. Several landmarks of Delhi like Akshardham Temple, Red Fort, India Gate and Humayun’s Tomb are in the vicinity of the Commonwealth Games.

Hotels usually have en-suite bathrooms or at least a shower in the room. Hostels and âPensionsâ usually do not have en-suite facilities and have fewer comforts than hotels so as to be expected are slightly cheaper.

Don’t assume that just because you might be forced to stay in a one or two star hotel that the quality of the service is inferior to a five star hotel because in some cases it might actually be better because the stars are allocated for the facilities the hotel can offer not the quality of the service. The more exclusive hotels offer all kinds of extra facilities, such as air conditioning, on-site parking, internet-access and rooms with televisions as well as facilities for the disabled.

It is advisable to plan in advance when you want to come to this area because as you would expect, prices and rates can vary on the season or time of year that you choose to visit. A popular option available in all of the autonomous regions of northern Spain are hostels (hostales) and guest houses (pensiones) which are cheaper than hotels. These are usually small family-run establishments offering just a few beds.

There are in excess of 1,500 hotels with a total of 92,000 beds registered in the territory of âGreen Spainâ — the Atlantic regions of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque country.

The biggest hotel chains in northern Spain are the Grupo Sol-Melia and NH with hotels in the main towns. The standard of accommodation in these hotels is extremely high. There is also now a growing number of small individually run hotels with a distinctive character and charm, for a memorable and relaxing stay.

In Spain you’ll find an establishment called a Parador. These are classified from between three to five stars. The first Parador opened in 1928 and there is now quite a comprehensive network throughout the country. They are located close together so that there is never more than a dayâs drive to the nearest one. The Parador de los Reyes Catolicos in Santiago de Compostela, located in a former royal hunting lodge is possibly the best known Parador in the area. Other Paradors can be found in Castles, Monasteries and various other monumentsâ. You will quite often find that there are a growing number of purpose built Paradors and these can quite often be found in either towns of historic interest or areas of spectacular scenery.

The local Parador might not be best hotel in town but it will usually deliver a predictably consistent standard of comfort. The standard from each Parador to Parador very rarely varies with comfortable spacious bedrooms to be found throughout. Quite often you will find that they offer outstanding samples of regional cuisine. If you plan to tour in high season or to stay in the smaller Paradors, it might be wise to reserve the room. Bookings can be made either using the Central de Reservas which is a centrally based service based in Madrid or you can contact each Parador direct. As with most areas if you travel in the high season you will find accommodation can be quite expensive but if you are able to shop around you can quite often find special deals available.

So you have decided on a visit to St. Vincent?

Congratulations, you have made a great choice.

Welcome!

St. Vincent is part of a group of islands known as St. Vincent and the Grenadines otherwise called “The Jewels of the Caribbean.”

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is a fabulous genuinely friendly destination. As mentioned earlier, it presents a unique collection of islands so if you are a collector at heart, then you are in for a treat, because each island is a gem on its own that you’ll treasure forever.

But we’ll deal with the Grenadines in another of our guides.

The people of St Vincent are called Vincentians (just forget the Saint bit).

No Boeing 747 or any similar type aircraft has landed on St Vincent. But rather than being a disadvantage, being hard to get to has helped to preserve the island and its people as one of the most natural and friendly places anywhere in the Caribbean. Additionally, you would never find hordes of tourists of which you just become another number.

Guests are received not as groups, but as individuals with each one given their own personal welcome and greeting. When you come to St. Vincent you are not just a statistic, you are family.

Where is St. Vincent and the Grenadines?

Saint Vincent is a volcanic island in the Caribbean. It is 18 miles long and 11 miles wide and is the largest island of the chain called Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Located in the Caribbean Sea, 100 miles west of Barbados and between Saint Lucia to the north and Grenada to the south. It is composed of partially submerged volcanic mountains. La Soufre is still an active volcano.

The territory was disputed between France and the United Kingdom in the 18th century, before being ceded to the British in 1783. It gained independence on October 27, 1979.

Approximately 110,000 people live on the island where Kingstown is the chief town. The rest of the population resides in the other five towns of Layou, Barrouallie, Chateaubelair, Georgetown, and Calliaqua and in villages and hamlets scattered throughout the island.

The Eastern Caribbean dollar is the currency used in St. Vincent. This currency his fixed to the U.S. dollar and so its exchange value is always EC.70 to U.S.00. This has been the exchange rate over the last 30 years. Other currencies such as the pound sterling and the Euro are accepted and easily convertible at any bank.

The E.T. Joshua airport is located just minutes from the main hotel area. There is hardly a hotel that is more than 30 minutes from the airport. The regional airline LIAT is the main carrier serving the airport, but a number of excellent air charter services also provide flights into and out of the E.T. Joshua.

History of St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Long before Christopher Columbus spotted this island during his third voyage in 1498 it had been called Hairoun” land of the blessed – by the Caribs the indigenous peoples. Columbus named the island St. Vincent, because he stumbled on it on 22 January, the feast day of the patron saint of Portugal, Vincent of Saragossa.

St. Vincent is one of the few islands in the Caribbean where the resistance to the colonizers by the indigenous people was fierce. Indeed the island’s national hero is the former Carib Chief Joseph Chatoyer. He is renowned for taking the battle to both the British and French during his reign. He was eventually killed by a British soldier at Dorsetshire hill where today there is an obelisk erected in his memory.
The island is tropical and lush green vegetation abounds practically everywhere. There is an average temperature of between 18 and 31°C depending on the altitude and time of year.

Mainland St Vincent is one of the few places on Earth that can boast of having black-sand beaches and white-sand on the same land mass.

There are places where there is just a rock that separates the black-sand beach from the white-sand beach. The black sand, which was formed by the action of the volcano, is said to be able to provide one of the minerals that is needed by the human body. The majority of the beaches on the mainland have black sand, while all of the beaches in the Grenadines have white sand.

There are several unique attractions including the oldest botanical gardens in the western hemisphere and more recently the remains of the set of the block buster movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

Vincentians are a house proud people. One of the things that will certainly attract your attention is the well crafted homes you see everywhere you turn. It is this sense of loving home and house that makes finding accommodation on St Vincent exciting and easy.

Most of the hotel properties are family owned and family run. This lends itself to very personalize attention and care.

So first of all, do not expect any high rise brand name hotels, there are none. Instead you can find accommodation ranging from a luxury island resort covering 35 acres and located just 200 yards offshore, to lovely bed and breakfast cottages. The choice is absolutely yours.

Well whether you want to hang out on a beach, walk a nature trail, tour historic buildings and other sights your fancy can be filled.

The best time to holiday in St Vincent depends on your chosen purpose for visiting. The summer months are filled with festivities the major being “Vincy Mas” which is the famous Vincentian Carnival and crescendos during the first week of July.

Its ten days of revelry and parties climaxing with the colourful parade of costume bands and hordes of people jumping in the streets behind musical trucks.

Again your choice depends on the type of vacation you are seeking.
Are you planning on reveling in one of the national festivals like Carnival which takes place in the months of June and July?

Maybe you prefer to spend your time close to the water – cruising, sailing or Scuba diving?

The majority of hotel properties are located on the Southern coast of the island. This is because the north and centre of the island is dominated by the La Soufriere volcano and secondly it’s where the white sandy beaches are located. Capital Kingstown is also located in this portion of the island towards the southwest.

So when looking for a good hotel you must first start with looking for the right location. Ensure that it is not located in a bad neighborhood or where there is vice and crime. Thankfully, in St. Vincent crime is not a major issue, though as in every destination in the world one has to be sensible about how you conduct and expose yourself.

If you are planning on staying out of town and you will need to either get your own transportation or link up with a reliable taxi operator or alternatively learn how to use the public transport system. So check whether the hotels you select have taxis easily available or if there is easy access to public transport to the places you will need to go.

After checking out on the location and transport you will then need to look for a hotel that meets with your requirements. What would be your requirement? A good hotel should have clean rooms with bathrooms included. You will certainly not be looking to go down the hallway for the use of a bathroom. Find out the size of the room. Q: How do I check on availability and rates?
Availability can be checked on the Hotes website, by emailing them or calling on the phone. Make it clear what kind of room and services you are looking for to ensure you get quoted the right rates and availability.
Q: What if there is no availability?
If there is no availability at the property of your choice, you may do well to check availability at another property since most are situated in the same areas and offer similar services.
Q: How do I cancel my reservation?
Cancelling your reservation could incur charges or one kind or another. Before making reservation, ensure you fully understand what the terms and conditions of canceling your reservation are potentially. Don’t expect to cancel your reservation without some sort of penalty.
Q: How do I make a booking for groups and meetings?
If you are interested in making bookings for a group or for meetings, your must do this with the greatest possible lead time since groups would take up blocks of accommodation. Normally groups are considered as booking with five rooms or more and can attract a discount on the regular rates so please make sure this is communicated.

Accidents can happen with almost anywhere at any time. So ask the prospective Hotel what arrangements they have in place to prevent injuries and property damage. Again if a Hotel property is serious about their business they will be able to answer these questions with ease.

How long have they been in business?

A measure of how good a hotel property has performed is how long it has been in business. If the property has been in existence over several years then they must have been doing something right so ask. Additionally are they a member of the local association or other regional tourism organization.

Choosing Kings Cross hotels is difficult because of the sheer amount of choice you have. So how does one go about picking the right hotel? You can look at the location or reviews – two of many ways to pick. The following five pointers should help you along.

When it comes to picking a hotel in Kings Cross, one thing to consider is that pricing dictates availability. When big events are on, hotels are normally crammed with tourists looking for overnight accomodation. And with increased demand, hotels put their prices up. On the other side though, cheaper rooms can be found off-peak.

Once you have a clear idea of pricing and availability, you can compare the hotels that tick the box. Assuming the hotel has one, log onto its website to check their ammenities. Listing these facilities for each hotel against each other should give you a good comparison on value for money. It’s also worth considering some amenities are worth more than others. As an example, I know I’d rather have a trouser press than a TV. Depending on which way you are inclined, most people would prefer a bar to a garden. I suppose that really does come down to personal preference!

The most important part of a hotel for me is good staff. Ringing reception and enquiring about the hotel is always a good idea. This gives you an excuse to confirm the facilities but also lets you gage the staff’s knowledge of the local area. Polite, happy staff will make a stay a most enjoyable one.

Location is key to any hotel. What’s the point of staying in a hotel otherwise? A hotel within walking distance to Kings Cross train station is a good idea, as the Underground links can take you to pretty much anywhere in London in around an hour (or minutes for some areas). Google Maps can tell you what is near such as bars and restaurants. Though if using a taxi isn’t a bad option, then location isn’t as important. Traveling via taxi in the evening is also a good idea for safety.

A hotel review says a lot about the accomodation. Using Google, you’ll find a plethora of hotel review sites. Some hotels will also have their own guestbook for feedback, although be wary this may be moderated to some degree. Friends can also give you an idea of what is good and what isn’t. Although always take word of mouth with a pinch of salt. Some people are very difficult to please.

The Kalypso Cretan Village is situated at Plakias, 31 kms south of Rethymnon and 115 kms of Heraklion Airport. The Hotel is located in the grandiose environment of a small isolated gulf. It lies in 50.000 sq meters full of gardens and hanging rocks and has been created with respect to nature beauty and keeping the traditional Cretan style. According to the myth, Zeus, father of the gods of Olympus, chose the island of Crete for his human residence. Taking the form of a white bull, he abducted his beloved Europe and hid her in the marvellous beach of Preveli and its nearby palm grove before consecrating her into a goddess. Later on, Odysseus, hero of Troy and the one who imagined the Trojan Horse, on his return journey from Troy was captured by the magnificence of the landscape and the beauty of the mythical queen Kalypso. He spent seven whole years in the area before continuing his return journey.

You’re coming to Cape Town – which some of us in the Southern Hemisphere would say is the most beautiful, efficient and sophisticated city in Africa. Your choice of accomodation in Cape Town will play an important part of your experience of this lovely city.

Things to look for in good quality accomodation in Cape Town are clean and modern furnishings, privacy and a good location.

Green Point has not always been popular with tourists as an area with regards to accomodation in Cape Town.

This area which is located on the western border of Cape Town city and close to the Waterfront is continously being upgraded.

The 2010 Soccer World Cup will be hosted at the Green Point stadium which is currently in it’s completion stages and has helped invigorate this increasingly fashionable area.

Not so very long ago this Cape Town city precinct was the kind of place that offered you few reasons to visit it.

A visit to the Traffic Department (which is still located here) to settle parking fines did not endear Green Point to people.

If you were feeling a little gay or a lot gay then The Bronx bar was a reliable meeting place for gentlefolk.

And ladies would also be readily available on street corners down the main road of Green Point.

All these factors made Green Point quite an unsavoury place – at least for tourists when choosing accomodation in Cape Town.

As a result of recent changes Green Point has become more slick and modernised while retaining its character.

Lots of new modern well located apartments in Green Point means there is a much better choice of accomodation in Cape Town.

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront Development is the very affluent neighbour of Green Point.

There is no more room for expansion in the Waterfront Marina where the exclusive location and setting has resulted in a high demand for this type of accomodation in Cape Town.

This has resulted in a similiar quality of development in Greenpoint which lies on the V&A Waterfront’s southern boundary.

And so the Green Point stretch alongside this has responded with a swathe of glossy and modern apartment blocks and luxury all-suite hotels. Apartments in the Greenpoint area have become popular accomodation in Cape Town as a result of its excellent location.

These are excellent choices for accomodation in Cape Town as they offer better value than the Waterfront Marina by being on the outer edge of the Waterfront perimeter yet having fast direct access to all the Waterfront attractions.

And of course the security-conscious and high-tech V and A Waterfront lacks the aura of street-cred evident in Green Point.

Trendy shopping centres, good restaurants, lounge bars and coffee shops pepper the sidewalks and add to the unpretentious groove of Green Point.
